Christmas Creatives Easter Hints
As Christmas decorators, people often ask us if we would branch out into decorating for holidays other than Christmas, and whilst we enjoy decorating our personal homes (especially at Halloween), Christmas decorating is definitely our passion. There is something immensely satisfying about the symmetry of a decorated Christmas tree with its perfect balance of sparkle and texture, especially when it’s matched to the décor of a client’s home or premises, and complimented by wreaths, garlands and presents to complete the look.
However, in the meantime, if you need a little festive fix, Easter is just around the corner, and I think we could all use an excuse to get decorating right now. I have seen some examples of people who go the whole hog at Easter time and there is such a thing as an Easter tree (think white, beautiful Christmas trees decorated with eggs, bunnies and pastels).
However, that takes a lot of commitment, and may be a little over the top for us Kiwis, so I think one of the easiest and most effective things you can do is hang a pretty wreath on your door. I have a couple of wreaths you can buy, or if you’re feeling creative you can make them yourself. As Easter also coincides with Autumn in New Zealand there are several different themes you could go with.
We made some wreaths from scratch last year using vine like materials and hot gluing on decorations. It really was quite simple; the natural materials were foraged and then the base was made by twisting and interweaving branches into a circular shape. Stray pieces were held in place with a little wire. We used artificial flowers and fruit, mixed with real pinecones, dried bay leaves, walnuts, and chestnuts for the decorations. See our Christmas Creatives Instagram Page for pictures.
Another options which is probably a bit less fiddly is to use an artificial fir Christmas wreath as your base. If you cover it with enough greenery, no one will know you have used a Christmas decoration at Easter! You might be surprised at what you could use from your Christmas tree decoration collection interspersed with some Easter-ish items.
We made this wreath using various greenery sprays, white berries, pink flowers, birds and these super cute birds’ nests with eggs in them. See - you can’t even tell there is a Christmas wreath underneath it all. This will really brighten up a front door and give the neighbours something to look at as they walk past. It’s Easter the Wellington Christmas Decorators way!
